  1. Corrine Frazer:I disagree. First aid should be render by the closest person to the situation at the given time! The first responders often a live saver What would happen to children I an incident at school and the trained nurse is absent, should that child be left unattended to.First aid is vital and is necessary that the first person present try to assist until further help is possible or available.

Though it is not and should not be the sole responsibility of a teacher, all teacher caregiver should be able to render first aid in the event of any accident or injure to any of the children at the given time. However it is called first aid and all members of staff within a institution that give care to children should have basic knowledge of how to render first aid assistance. Yes our plate maybe full as teachers / caregivers we should have this knowledge and if and when it is called upon we should be able to execute the necessary first aid assistance and then hand it over to the nurse the that might be employed at the school or the nearest health center.

I Agree because teachers has to carry out a number of responsibilities to accommodate a child and if something happens to one of them you could easily rush the child to the school nurse or contact her cell to attend to the child, so you dont leave other children unattended to, but that doesn't mean that teachers should not have an idea of what to do when this occur. But the school nurse is needed for that specific task so other children school work will not be hindered for an entire day because the teacher has to trdn to that child all day.

It's called first aid miss pusey, the will not be any need for a teacher to stay with a child rendering first aid for a day. They may need to stay with a child who is in critical need as so would the nurse as a nurse can only do so much infact most nurses are first aiders

    1. Yes I understand what u are saying Corrine, but teachers has enough responsibilities so even if they aren't spending the day with a child to render this, let it not be left on them to do if their is a school nurse which I think the school should have so teachers can do their work differently yes they should have an idea to do it but let it be the nurses job. That's my point of view but I get what u saying.

Disagree it don't have to be that a trained nurse should be employed to an early childhood institution as many institution cannot afford to pay an trained nurse
However I believe that it is the responsibility of all works at the institution, whether nurse, teacher,or caregiver should ensure that all children at the institution receive immediate attention incase of an accident, therefore the teachers, caregivers should be trained to assist in first aid,so that if any child is taken I'll or injured at the institution they would know exactly how to assist any accident or even a child being sick can just suddenly happens and if the teacher or caregiver don't know how to render assistant, incase the nurse employ to the institution is not available then this would means that the child would not be tended too on time, which can help to save a child's life and also prevent a simple injury in becoming a serious one.

Yanique pusey a child can take sick in a class room and need immediate attention and just by knowing first aid you will save the child as it depend an the accident by the time you rush to sick bay for help the child might be a dead child...

    1. Yes TraceyAnn I know this, a teacher can offer first aid to a child but what if it is more critical where the teacher has to refer the child to a medical care then the teacher would now have to get busy in trying to accommodate this child in having to do so much already so I think a nurse could be a near of kin so that the teacher will get help in managing both health and education concerns for children.

Corrine frazier I agree with you there is no need for a teacher or caregiver to render assistant for a entire day for a child in first aid ..what would happen to the other children in the classroom.

I strongly disagree with the statement that all E.C institutions should employ a trained Nurse to handle all matters relating to Fist Aid.
Most E.C institutions are stroggling to pay teachers salaries, which at times are below minimum wage criteria .Most of these institutions themselves has to make serious sacrifices or be multi-faceTed where creativity is concerned to remain functional organized.
Who will pay these trained professionals and most importantly ,what level of training will these nurses have ?
Will employing a nurse render these cash-strapped institutions viable?
Secondly the term First Aid or better yet First Aider or first responder is anyone that reaches the scene of an accident /injury to render assistance and this can be anybody .Thus do comes with a tittle per say .Parents ,teachers and caregivers all should be trained in First Aid because it is not just useful at school or only specific to school but anywhere

    1. I strongly concur with Miss Robinson. If teachers/caregivers are trained they would be able to render assist to children until they get them to a hospital the nurse would do the same thing. Only the qualification differs between the caregiver and a nurse.

    2. I strongly disagree
because if any incident should occurred the first person they would call is the nurse.so what a nurse can do a teacher can't do it,so we need a nurse into the institution.

I agree strongly with Correne Frazer that First aid should be render by the closest person to the situation. Also if the teacher or parents did not have any knowledge of First Aid and the person (Nurse )is absent at the time in question, a general knowledge of First Aid by such as teachers snd parents can save limb ,body or life

I agree to disagree with Tracy Ann Morrison in that I agree that teachers has a lot if responsibilities in dealing with children. If the school can afford it then this would be feasible with the aspect of utilizing that scenario to drive your point home. This is why it is imperative that all teachers and parents if they wish should be trained in First Aid

  10. I totally disagree because anything can happen to a child in spit second and niether nurse or teacher is at the present moment,so if someone else is their that can assist that child should that person walk away and said oh!the nurse wil come and attend to the child.worst if its a seriouse case.

    1. Vanessa Cain what your saying is true but remember it a debate on whether teacher or nurse carry out first aid and not a anyone which could cause further complications

    2. I agree with this comment. what would teachers/caregivers do if the nurse called in sick or had an emergency and doesn't turn up for work.

  11. Vanessa Nelson i agree with pusey.for the sake of our child or children teachers alone cant do it so if so be the case both teachers and school nurse needed.

  12. Vanessa Cain:I'm in agreement with having a school nurse if the school can afford to hire someone because when incidents happen it can cause distractions and disrupt class especially if the injury look fatal children can be traumatize by simple things like see blood and will need their teacher to offer some form of comfort and assurance.

I totally agree with miss Robinson, first aid is vital to our every day life and thus the need for teachers to be trained in this aspect!!! Valid point Tashmae, about the level of training for the nurses. While care is needed not every school can afford it because not even some High schools don't have a well trained nurse.

  14. I disagree that each early childhood institution should not employ a trained nurse to handle all first aid matter. As a EC teacher at least one teacher in the institution should be able to assist a child if there an incident happen at school.the school can hardly find money to pay the teacher so why employ more person and we also have some person in the school who have more that one trade.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Disagree with that yanique so what if the nurse is not at school for today and a incidents happen on the school ground, what are u going to do leave the child there to die and if you call for a first aid respond and they don't come on time, there will be someone to help until they arrive.

  16. I disagree with the statement because not all school can afford or have the structure to facilitate a school nurse. In my opinion, I think that teachers or caregivers should be trained in case emergencies arise on the school compound. The purpose of first aid is to minimize injury and future disability, so teachers and caregivers should be educated on such matter.

  17. In agreement with tracy as a teacher we can assist at any given time.

  18. Nadine: I agree with the ECI to employ
a trained nurse to handle all matters relating to First Aid. Reason being, the teacher have a class with 25 students one child took sick the teacher have to be focusing on the sick child. While the other students are there unattened.
Small children unattended can get very scared. Relating they love to explore when their is no supervision . And such prastice do not sit well with parents. Knowing that when a child is sick . the teacher have to be the one doing the duty of the murse plus doing the job of the teacher.
